Microsoft Ships KB5095093 Preview Update to Fix Windows 11 Taskbar, Explorer and GPU Bugs

KB5095093 is the June 23, 2026 preview cumulative update for Windows 11. It advances devices to OS Build 26200.8737 on Version 24H2 and OS Build 26100.8737 on Versions 23H2 and 22H2, and applies to Home, Pro, Enterprise and Education editions.

As a preview release, the update is optional and delivers only non-security quality improvements and reliability fixes. It is not delivered automatically and must be started manually via Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates, or pushed through enterprise deployment tooling. A restart is required to finish installation.

Microsoft attributes the addressed issues to multiple independent defects introduced or exposed in prior cumulative updates to the Windows 11 26200 and 26100 build branches. The notable fixes:

1. Taskbar and Start menu unresponsiveness: fixes a race condition in ShellExperienceHost.exe that caused the taskbar, Start button and system tray to stop responding to input under sustained CPU load.
2. File Explorer directory refresh: corrects a Client Side Rendering (CSR) regression that showed stale contents and incorrect file sizes after copy/move/delete, removing the need for manual F5 refreshes.
3. DirectX/Direct3D artifacts and crashes: addresses a DXGI swap chain incompatibility with certain GPU driver versions that caused artifacts, stuttering and crashes in Direct3D 11/12 workloads, notably on hybrid GPU setups.
4. Windows Search indexing stalls: fixes indexer throttling logic so cloud-fetch latency on large OneDrive libraries no longer prematurely suspends indexing jobs.
5. Group Policy delays at logon: resolves a gpsvc timing defect that delayed policy processing by up to 60 seconds when the network interface was not fully initialized at logon on domain-joined and Intune-managed devices.
6. Settings app crash on launch: fixes a null pointer dereference in SystemSettings.exe triggered by corrupted or non-standard registry entries under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer.
7. Bluetooth audio disconnects: corrects a Bluetooth Audio Gateway (AG) profile state machine error that dropped paired audio devices after resuming from sleep (S3) or hibernation (S4).
8. Virtual Desktop wallpaper persistence: fixes a missing persistence call so per-desktop wallpaper assignments survive reboots and sign-outs.

The update targets Windows 11 devices on the affected 24H2, 23H2 and 22H2 builds. Environments most likely to benefit include those reporting shell responsiveness problems, hybrid-GPU workstations hitting Direct3D crashes, and managed fleets seeing slow Group Policy application at logon.

Before applying KB5095093, the May 2026 cumulative update (KB5093294 or later) must be installed. Because it is a preview, you must trigger it manually from Windows Update or deploy it via enterprise tools, then restart.

Microsoft has identified three known issues with this update at release:

• Third-party security software conflict: installation may fail with error 0x800F0922 on devices with certain endpoint protection. Workaround: temporarily disable real-time protection before installing.
• Intel display driver black screen: devices with Intel integrated graphics drivers earlier than 31.0.101.2125 may show a brief black screen (up to 30 seconds) on first boot; the system recovers automatically.
• WSL2 networking disruption: WSL2 virtual network adapter settings may reset after installation. Workaround: run 'wsl --shutdown' then 'wsl' in an elevated PowerShell session.
