TriZetto Provider Solutions confirms major healthcare breach
TriZetto Provider Solutions, a Cognizant subsidiary that develops software for health insurers and healthcare providers, disclosed a significant data breach on March 6. The incident exposed sensitive information belonging to over 3.4 million patients across multiple healthcare organizations.
The company provides claims processing, provider network management, and other critical healthcare IT services to insurers and medical facilities nationwide. BleepingComputer reported that the breach affects one of the largest healthcare technology platforms in the industry.
3.4 million patients across multiple health systems impacted
The breach affects patients whose data was processed through TriZetto's healthcare management systems. This includes individuals covered by health insurance plans and those who received care at medical facilities using TriZetto's software solutions.
Healthcare providers and insurance companies that rely on TriZetto's platform for claims processing, eligibility verification, and provider credentialing are also impacted. The exposed data includes protected health information (PHI) that could be used for identity theft or medical fraud.
Investigation underway as notification process begins
TriZetto hasn't disclosed specific details about how the breach occurred or when it was first detected. The company is working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and determine the full scope of compromised data.
Affected patients will receive notification letters explaining what information was exposed and steps they can take to protect themselves. Cyber Security News noted that the company is also coordinating with law enforcement and regulatory agencies as required under HIPAA breach notification rules.
