Interpol Coordinates Massive Infrastructure Takedown
Interpol announced on March 13, 2026, the completion of Operation Synergia III, a coordinated international law enforcement action targeting cybercrime infrastructure. The operation successfully sinkholed 45,000 IP addresses and seized 59 servers used by criminal networks worldwide.
The three-month operation involved law enforcement agencies from 95 countries working together to disrupt malicious infrastructure. SecurityWeek reported that the action represents one of the largest coordinated takedowns of cybercrime infrastructure to date.
Criminal Networks Face Major Infrastructure Loss
The sinkholed IP addresses were hosting various cybercrime operations including botnet command and control servers, phishing sites, and malware distribution networks. Criminal groups relying on this infrastructure now face significant operational disruption.
The seized servers were located across multiple continents, indicating the global scope of the targeted criminal operations. Law enforcement agencies worked with internet service providers and hosting companies to execute the coordinated takedown.
Three-Month Coordinated Enforcement Action
Operation Synergia III ran for three months, with participating countries sharing intelligence and coordinating simultaneous actions. The operation targeted infrastructure used for various cybercrime activities including fraud, malware distribution, and data theft.
Interpol coordinated the international effort, providing a central hub for intelligence sharing and operational coordination. The success of the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of international cooperation in combating transnational cybercrime networks.
