Microsoft rolls out Windows 11 March 2026 feature update
Microsoft released its March 2026 Windows 11 update on March 5, introducing nine new features that enhance system monitoring, personalization, and performance diagnostics. The update marks a significant shift with native Sysmon integration, eliminating the need for separate downloads of Microsoft's system monitoring tool.
The update also brings WebP format support for desktop wallpapers, allowing users to set high-quality images with smaller file sizes as backgrounds. Windows Central confirmed the feature list includes taskbar performance testing and Pro-exclusive recovery options.
Windows 11 users get tiered feature access
All Windows 11 users will receive the core features including native Sysmon, WebP wallpaper support, and the new taskbar speed test utility. The speed test allows users to benchmark their system's responsiveness directly from the taskbar interface.
Windows 11 Pro users gain exclusive access to Quick Machine Recovery, a feature designed to restore system functionality without full reinstallation. This Pro-only tool targets enterprise and power users who need rapid system restoration capabilities.
Update deployment and system requirements
The March 2026 update deploys through Windows Update automatically for compatible systems. Users can manually check for updates through Settings > Windows Update to accelerate the installation process.
Native Sysmon integration requires no additional configuration and activates automatically after the update installs. The WebP wallpaper feature works with existing personalization settings, while the taskbar speed test appears as a new right-click option on the taskbar.
