Outlook for Windows Gets Offline Attachment Feature
Microsoft rolled out a new feature for Outlook for Windows on March 11, 2026, that addresses a long-standing user frustration. The email client now allows users to attach files to messages even when they're offline.
Previously, users had to wait for an internet connection to add attachments to their emails. This created workflow interruptions, especially for mobile workers or those with unreliable connectivity.

The update affects all users of the Outlook for Windows desktop application. The feature works across different Windows versions and doesn't require any specific hardware or software prerequisites.
Users can now compose emails with attachments during flights, commutes, or in areas with poor internet coverage. The attachments queue locally until connectivity resumes.

Automatic Send When Online
The new functionality automatically detects when internet connectivity returns and sends queued emails with their attachments. Users don't need to manually retry sending or re-attach files.
The feature maintains the original composition timestamp and preserves all attachment metadata during the offline period. Microsoft hasn't announced any file size limitations specific to offline attachments.
